Madison County Coordinated Transportation Plan HIA
- Location
- Wampsville, New York
- Organization(s)
- Madison County Department of Health
The HIA focused on the Coordinated Transportation Plan, which was intended to identify and address transportation needs of individuals with disabilities, older adults and residents with low incomes.
The key outcome of the HIA was the decision to develop a more comprehensive Community Transportation Plan. The Community Transportation Plan will encompass three general themes: safety; accessibility and mobility; and health and active living. These themes reflect the small, rural nature of the County with its desire to promote walking, cycling and other beneficial physical activity while still accommodating traditional traffic.
Other outcomes included:
1. Health would be considered as an integral part of all future transportation planning
2. A new transportation plan would be developed that would incorporate a greater focus on safety, walkability, connectivity, access to health services, etc.
3. The transportation plan now includes alterations to current public transportation routes and busing patterns.
