The Massachusetts Department of Public Health will assess the health implications of a proposed biomass power plant in Springfield, Massachusetts. The HIA will: 1) analyze potential health risk factors, such as increased air pollution from the burning of bio materials for energy production and injuries that could result from additional truck traffic on local roads; and 2) make recommendations on measures that could be taken to protect and improve health.
